How the group works

Capital. Capability. Market access.

The Original Grain brings together three specialist entities spanning commercial agriculture, agricultural investment and non-profit community development. One connected model, three separate legal entities.

The problem we solve

Productive land sits idle, and capable farms stay unfinanced, because of one constraint with three symptoms.

Funding arrives too late, or not at allHigh production costs, volatile weather and limited security make seasonal lending difficult, and falling prices tighten cash flow even when fields perform.
Expertise is episodic, not embeddedSoil health, input timing, mechanisation and grading decisions set yield and quality, but support is often disconnected from the finance.
A buyer is sought after the crop is grownWithout demand agreed before planting, the grower carries price, grade and payment risk alone.

Treating the gaps separately preserves the risk. Connecting them, with one shared record of readiness, inputs, field work, crop progress, contracted demand, delivery and payment, creates a financeable production system.

Six steps from capital to progression

Money goes into hectares, hectares become a crop, the crop has a buyer before it is planted, and the evidence from one season funds the next.

Who does what

Each arm is a separate legal entity with its own role, contracts and funding. Nothing is pooled.

Common questions

Is The Original Grain one company?

It is a group of three separate legal entities under one brand: The Original Grain Company (Pty) Ltd, The Original Grain Fund and The Original Grain NPC. Each contracts, funds and reports on its own.

Do donations to the NPC go into the Fund?

No. CSI and grant funding received by the NPC is applied to community livelihood projects. Investor capital in the Fund is a separate subscription under formal documents.

Who buys the crop?

The Original Grain Company, under an offtake agreement signed before planting, at a SAFEX-related price.

Which figures are results and which are projections?

Confirmed results carry a source and a season. Forward figures such as planned hectares or expected tonnes are labelled Projected.

Which entity answers my enquiry?

Each form on this site states which entity receives it: buyer and farmer enquiries go to the Company, investor enquiries to the Fund, CSI enquiries to the NPC.
